The Parc des Carrières is a cross-border landscape project located in the Upper Rhine Plain. The vast agricultural plain of nearly 300 hectares will gradually be transformed into a landscaped park with wetlands, green spaces, cycle paths, etc. 700 new trees and 1500 shrubs were already planted. The focus is on the renaturation of the gravel pits. You have a good chance to observe Þyrnisvarri, Gultittlingur, Svölugleða, Gulfinka, Þistilfinka, Hörfinka, Hagaskvetta, Húsaskotta, Garðaskotta, Næturgali, Skopsöngvari and Sönglævirki.

The Parc des Carrières is surrounded by the French towns of St. Louis, Hésingue and Hégenheim and on the Swiss side of Allschwil and the city of Basel. The park is accessible from Rue de Hegenheim in Saint-Louis and several other sides. There are several small parking zones around the perimeter of the park. The park is also reachable via local bus lines from Saint-Louis or Basel. The bus stops are marked 1 on the map.
