Beschreibung

The Dockkoog is located right on the edge of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park and consists of salt meadows, drainage ditches, and mudflats. While not among the most prominent birdwatching areas in northern Germany, the Dockkoog offers opportunities to observe a range of typical coastal and migratory bird species throughout the year. Especially during spring and autumn, species such as Austernfischer, Großer Brachvogel, Rotschenkel and various ducks and geese - particularly Ringelgans - can be observed feeding and resting in the area.

The open landscape provides good visibility, although there is no specific infrastructure such as hides or observation towers for birdwatchers. According to sightings reported on ornitho.de, Sumpfohreule have occasionally been recorded in the wider Husum area, particularly near the harbour during the winter months. Songbirds such as Wacholderdrossel, Misteldrossel, Zaunkönig, and Kohlmeise may also be encountered along the edges of nearby wooded zones, though these are less typical for the Dockkoog itself.

The site is easy to reach from Husum by foot or bicycle and can serve as a convenient stop for casual birdwatching. While the species diversity is moderate compared to larger reserves along the North Sea coast, the Dockkoog remains a quiet and accessible area for observing common waders and waterfowl in their natural coastal habitat.
