Wetland complex with a rich bird population. The lake is surrounded by forests, marshes, wet meadows, reed beds and pastures.
Barkerydssjön is a small lake and protected wetland that is rich in birds. From a bird observation tower you can overlook the area. Around the lake, in the wet grasslands, meadows, reed beds, and in the surrounding forest you will find birds like Western Marsh Harrier, Eurasian Hobby and Whooper Swan. You can also find different kinds of geese, ducks and meadow birds like Eurasian Curlew and Northern Lapwing. Also Common Crane and Wood Lark. In the forest there are Crested Tit, Marsh Tit, Long-tailed Tit, among others.
Barkerydssjön is located in between the town of Nässjö and the city of Jönköping, 2 km north of the village of Bästhult. Press P on the map for directions to the parking lot. From the parking it's a short walk to the birdwatching tower. You can also take a walk around the area. By Bus: Take Line 119 from Nässjö Central station to Bästhult. From there it is a 2 km walk to Barkerydssjön.
