The Arolla Glacier is an extensive glacier that is slowly retreating from the valley. At the foot of the glacier, there are several scree slopes and steep mountain walls. These cliffs provide suitable habitats for species such as Alpine Accentor and Wallcreeper. There is a large amount of glacial debris, vegetation is sparse.
The Glacier d'Arolla is located in southwestern Switzerland, near the village of Arolla, not far from the Italian border. Cars can be parked at Arolla Magine, which is also served by a bus connection. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. The area is only accessible on foot, and it is advisable to allow for a hiking time of about two hours. The walking route shown on the map is about 4 km one way.
