Post-industrial lake on the Oder River located just a few kilometers south of the center of Opole.
Kamionka Bolko in Opole is a post-industrial lake surrounded by wooded banks. The lake was formed in 1997 when the former quarry was flooded during a massive flood on the Oder River. Since then, it’s been transformed into one of the city’s recreational spots en the south side of the lake has a beach. Certain parts of the lake are designated bird sanctuaries. These areas are off-limits to swimmers and boats to protect nesting sites, especially during breeding season. Also some beaver habitats are protected. The lake is good for wintering ducks, gulls and divers like Гоголь, Красноголовый нырок, Хохлатая чернеть, Турпан, Синьга, Морянка, Краснозобая гагара, Чернозобая гагара, Чомга and Большой баклан.
Kamionka Bolko is located just 3 kilometers south of the center of Opole. The lake is easily accessible by bike paths, car, or public transport. Several city buses stop near the lake. Look for stops like "Marka z Jemielnicy – Al. Przyjaźni" or "Al. Przyjaźni-Pętla", both within walking distance. There are several parking areas. Press P on the map for directions to a parking spot.
